Throughout her 70-year reign, the life of Queen Elizabeth II was never far from our television screens. Rare TV documentaries over the years offered intriguing insights into the Queen's character, from her work ethic to her comic wit, and she graced Radio Times's front cover more times than any other person in history.

This week's feature by Laura Elston talks about a selection of the Queen's Radio Times cover appearances, as well as TV and radio appearances throughout her reign, from her 1940 radio broadcast to evacuated youngsters around the world on BBC radio's Children's Hour, through to starring alongside Paddington Bear as part of her Platinum Jubilee.

She’s appeared on our screens over the years in countless dramas including Line of Duty, It’s a Sin and Bodyguard, but it wasn’t until the Crossfire script reached her inbox that KEELEY HAWES realised that the chaos rarely centred specifically around her characters. Co-produced by her own production company, Buddy Club, Crossfire sees Keeley’s character Jo channelling her fiercest mum instincts, when during a family holiday, gunmen suddenly open fire on the sun-dappled resort. This week, Keeley chats with Radio Times about her career to date, and the complexities of filming the upcoming BBC action thriller.

‘They didn’t shut the resort the whole time we were filming. We’d be shooting a scene and nice old couples would be walking past and waving at me: ‘Look, it’s that Keeley Hawes!’’
